Referring to your letter of the 26th September, No.45327/1918, respecting the provision of a passage for Ir. V. 45327 Johnson, Warder, Prisons Department.
Hong Kong. I have the honour to state that in accordance with semi-official instructions received by telephone on the 2nd October, we offered this officer a passage to Hong Kong by a steamer which! sailed on the 10th October, and told him that if he could not sail then we might be unable to obtain accommodation for him until January next. He replied to the effect that he was unable to sail on the 10th October on account of ill health and that his resignation was follāwing.
2. As we have not received a further communication from him we conclude that he has addressed you direct on the subject and we await the Secretary of State's instructions in the matter. Heanwhile we do not propose making any further payment to Mr. Johnson, who has received his colonial allowance up to and including the 31st August.
